Mark Meadows Charged With Trying to Overturn Georgia's 2020 Election Results

Atlanta, GA - August 28, 2023

BREAKING: Mark Meadows, the final White House chief of staff for Donald Trump, has been charged with 18 others with trying to overturn Georgia's 2020 election results.

The indictment, which was handed down by the Fulton County District Attorney's Office, alleges that Meadows and the other defendants engaged in a multi-state conspiracy to overturn the election result by, among other things, attempting to influence state officials, submitting false electoral certificates, and pressuring election workers.

The charges against Meadows come as the House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot continues its own inquiry into his role in the former president's efforts to overturn the election. Meadows has refused to cooperate with the committee's investigation, invoking his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.

The indictment is a significant development in the ongoing legal battle over the 2020 election results. If convicted, Meadows could face significant jail time. The charges also raise the possibility that other Trump allies could be charged with crimes related to the former president's attempt to overturn the election.
