Historic Victory Extends Reds' Unbeaten Run
Goals Galore as Liverpool Dominate Old Rivals
Liverpool produced a stunning performance to demolish Manchester United 7-0 at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, extending their unbeaten run to 19 games and setting a new record for the heaviest defeat in the history of the fixture.
Cody Gakpo opened the scoring for the Reds after just four minutes, tapping home from close range after a brilliant cross from Mohamed Salah. Darwin Nunez doubled the lead just eight minutes later, heading in a pinpoint cross from Andy Robertson.
Liverpool continued to dominate the first half and made it 3-0 on the half-hour mark when Salah produced a moment of magic to curl a stunning effort into the top corner. The Egyptian then turned provider for Núñez, who made it 4-0 just before the break with a clinical finish.
United offered little resistance in the second half, and Liverpool continued to pour forward in search of more goals. Roberto Firmino made it 5-0 with a close-range finish after good work from Gakpo, and Mohamed Salah added a sixth with a deflected effort.
The scoring was completed by substitute Fabio Carvalho, who slotted home from inside the area to make it 7-0. It was a humiliating defeat for United, who have now lost their last four Premier League games and are 11 points adrift of their rivals in the table.
